Pingara Rajyothsava Award 2011 conferred on Harikrishna Punaroor

Mangalore, Nov 16, 2011 : Speaking as the chief guest of the Pingara Rajyothsava Award 2011 ceremony held on Nov 15 Tuesday, Dr. Mohan Alva, the chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation, said that Harikrishna Punaroor, the former president of the Kannada Sahithya Parishad, deserves this award fully.

Although the Pingara Award is being conferred on Punaroor for providing 101 houses for the poor, Punaroor has also contributed greatly for the past 40 years in the fields of social service, religion, healthcare, and literature. He bears the credit of organizing a free cataract operation camp for 10,000 people and distributing free spectacles among them. During his 12 years as the president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishad, Punaroor organized 87 taluk-level literary conventions and 12 district-level literary conventions, owing to which he fully deserves this award, said Dr. Alva.

  

 

 

Dr.Aloysius Paul D’Souza, the bishop of Mangalore Diocese, conferred the award on Punaroor and said that giving to the needy is the most gracious things one can do.

In his acceptance address, Punaroor said that he is happy that he obtained this award without lobbying for it. Stating that his award has increased his social responsibilities, he said that he will continue to contribute for social welfare in all ways possible.

The awards ceremony was inaugurated by Fr. Xavier Gomes. The other chief guests on the dais were MLA K. Abhayachandra Jain and DKWJU President P. B. Harish Rai. Swasti Shree Charukeerthi Pandithacharya Mahaswami of the Digambara Jaina Matha in Moodubidri presided over the event.

A book on Vaasthu Shashtra written by Alexander F. D’Souza was released on the occasion.

A delightful musical presentation by Anitha Sampson and her troupe formed part of the event.
