Mangalore, Jul 24: “Aatidonji dina,” a festival in honor of the month of Aati, was celebrated in Guttina Mane of Sanskriti Grama in Pilikula Nisargadhama on July 24, Saturday.

Chairman of Karnataka Bank Anantha Krishna said that the festival helped him relive the sweet moments of childhood. Speaking about the significance of Aati, he said that, although the sun shines brightly during the month of Aati, one does not experience its heat because of the cool rains that accompany it. Owing to the lack of agricultural activities during Aati, people spend their time playing indoor games, he said.

Dr. B. S. Shivakumar, the head of the department of Tulu Research Centre of Dravida University in Kuppam, who inaugurated the event, said that the state home ministry has sanctioned funds for the centre, which conducts research and publishes books.

Dr. Vamana Nandavara, the renowned litterateur welcomed the gathering and spoke of how the Heritage Village of Pilikula plays an important role in promotion the culture and traditions of Tulunadu.

The Aati food festival was also organized as part of the celebrations during which traditional dishes were served. In addition, an exhibition was held during which books, traditional items, and, antiques, and medicinal plants were displayed.
