PUC lecturers observe Teachers’ Day as Black Day

Mangalore, Sep 5, 2011: When teachers from schools and colleges across the twin districts were celebrating Teachers’ Day at Town Hall, the members of the Karnataka State Pre University College Lecturers’ Association DK were observing it as Black Day in front of the DC’s office today in protest against the apathetic attitude of the state government and its failure to fulfill their various demands regarding pay.

The pre university college lecturers in Karnataka want more salary. They have also decided to observe a fast to force the state government to pay them salaries according to the fourth and sixth pay commission. The association also submitted a memorandum to DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda.

President Radhakrishna Rao said that the association had urged former CM B. S. Yeddyurappa to satisfy their demands and had also approached the education minister in the matter. The association wants Rs. 14,050 as basic salary per month for pre university college lecturers, who are currently receiving a monthly basic pay of Rs. 11,000 per month.

Captain Ganesh Karnik also extended his support to the lecturers and was with them when they presented the memorandum.
