Udupi, February 20, 2025: Nearly 5,849 properties may get B-Khata in Udupi district, according to Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari.
Speaking to presspersons in Udupi on Tuesday, she said that the State government has approved granting B-Khata for constructions that have come up on illegal layouts on non-government revenue lands across the State. Many would have developed layouts illegally and those that are developed before September 10, 2024 become eligible to register for B-Khata. Necessary documents to prove that layout was developed before the cut-off date will have to be produced before the competent authority.
She said that those living in houses located in illegal layouts without paying the taxes can now make use of the opportunity to get their properties registered for B-Khata within three months. This is as per the Chief Minister’s direction to Deputy Commissioners.
The Deputy Commissioner said owners of such properties can pay double the tax at their respective local bodies and get their properties registered. Later, they can pay the regular tax as usual.
The Udupi district administration will take up a campaign for people to register their properties for B-Khata, she said.
There should not be any illegal layouts in the district after three months and violations will be dealt with stern action, she added.
