Mangalore, Dec 2, 2011 : Onde Hejje, a publicity campaign on the occasion of World AIDS Day, was jointly organized by the District Health and Family Welfare Department, District AIDS Prevention and Control Centre, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore Bar Association, Red Ribbon Clubs, and Athena Institute of Health Sciences in the auditorium of School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya. Dr. Rashmi from the KS Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) delivered the keynote address.

A number of students participated in the event.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the CEO of Zilla Panchayat, urged everybody to consider AIDS patients are parts of society. He also said that the district administration has received 52 applications from HIV positive people to provide them with various government benefits.

Speaking about the pathetic condition of sex workers, he said that rehabilitating them is the need of the hour. He said that the district administration has identified 200 sex workers and will provide loans for self-employment.

Sophia Fernandes, the principal of School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya; Dr. O. R. Shrirangappa, the district health officer; Prof. Vinita Rai; and Dr. Kishore Kumar were also present.
