Mangalore, March 27, 2013 : Here is an interesting piece of news. One of the two notorious thieves who were arrested by the Kadri police on March 26, Tuesday, was some time back in the news.
He had then proclaimed himself a police informer and had been to the Press against a police officer, accusing the latter of using him for hafta collection.
The accused namely Muneer Ahmed who was arrested on Tuesday, had in November 2011 convened a press meet to claim that he worked as a police informer for Bunder Inspector Vinay Gaonkar for 14 months and had collected as much as Rs 38 lakh hafta on behalf of the police officer.
He had also claimed that fed up he had stopped working for Gaonkar and was informer to ACP Ravindra Gadadi. Further, he had alleged that Gaonkar had threatened to eliminate him in an encounter and that he had complained against the officer with the then IGP (Western Range) Alok Mohan.
The investigation was later closed after considering the complaint as false after the complainant Muneer failed to appear in person for the hearing.
Now, the same Muneer is arrested on the charges of being involved in several major thefts.
