Karkala, June 17, 2012: Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya Memorial Institute of Technology in Nitte held the graduation ceremony of its second undergraduate autonomous batch on its premises on June 19, Saturday. 


Dr. T. C. Shivashankar Murthy, vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, who was the chief guest of the occasion, gave away the degree certificates and said that India has experienced economic growth decades after independence only because its universities could produce great engineers and scientists. He also said that India has excelled in areas such as agriculture, information technology, space technology, nano technology, biotechnology, and others, adding that India will be number one in the list of advanced nations in the world by 2050.

N. Vinaya Hegde, chancellor of Nitte University and president of Nitte Education Trust, gave away the gold medals to the toppers. Delivering the presidential address, he said that winning a gold medal is not the end of the academic journey, adding that everyday one has to learn something new. 


Principal Dr. S. Y. Kulkarni read the annual college report. 


Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar gave away the M. Tech degree certificates, and Dr. K. M. Hegde handed over the MCA certificates. 


Among the dignitaries on the dais were Dr. Shudhakar Nayak, registrar of Nitte University; Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, director of global initiatives; Ramesh Karnik, retired air vice marshal and director of JKSHIM; and others. 


Degrees were given away to 586 undergraduates and 156 graduates. The rank holders are Taskeen Salim Shedde (biotechnology), Bhagyashree (civil engineering), Swathi A. Nayak (computer science engineering), Mehanaz (electronics and communication engineering), Swathi Hatwar H. (electrical and electronics), K. S. Shwetha (information science engineering), and U. Vivek Shenoy (mechanical engineering) in the undergraduate level. 


In the post graduate level, the rank holders are Deepa (computer science engineering), Pushparaj A. Naik (civil engineering), Jennifer Charlotte Saldanha (electronics and communication engineering), Shetty Chaitra Gautam (MCA), and Rashmi (mechanical engineering).
