Mangalore, Sep 22, 2012 : Addressing the gathering at the district youth convention organized by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) at Milagres Jubilee Hall on September 22, Saturday, Dr. Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Temple, said that youth are the nation’s wealth.

Stating that Swami Vivekananda, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, and others had contributed a lot to society even in their youth, he urged today’s youth to consider them as their role models. He also advised young people to give their best to the country.

Veerappa Moily, union minister for corporate affairs; Oscar Fernandes, member of the Rajya Sabha; Blossom Fernandes, his wife; Salim Ahmed, NYKS director general for DK; MP Nalin Kumar Kateel; Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly; MLA Ramanath Rai; Manish Karbikar, Mangalore police commissioner; Mayor Gulzar Banu; Deputy Mayor Amitha Kala; DC Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda; ZP CEO K. N. Vijayaprakash; and many others were on the dais.


Dr. Veerendra Heggade and other dignitaries on the dais inaugurated the convention and paid floral tributes to the portraits of Pundit Jawaharlal Nehru, Swami Vivekananda, and Mahatma Gandhi.


Veerappa Moily and Oscar Fernandes spoke on the occasion. While Mr. Moily released a book on the activities of the NYKS on this occasion, Dr. Veerendra Heggade felicitated Salim Ahmed, who has been newly appointed as the director general of the district NYKS.


Speaking about the activities of the NYKS, Salim Ahmed said that NYKS has 3 lakh clubs in 620 districts all over India. Stating that the major objective of the NYKS is to empower the youth, he said that the NYKS organizes activities such as conventions, national integration camps, sports, and others for the nation’s youth.
