Mangalore, Nov 1, 2013 : The controversial order of the Karnataka Wakf Board staying the Friday prayers (Juma Namaz) at a mosque close by the famous Ullal Darga was opposed by protestors who had gathered outside the DC office in Mangalore on October 31, Thursday.
The protest was held under the aegis of the Sunni Yuvajana Sangha and Federation of Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Associations.
It may be recalled here that clashes had ensued in Ullal recently over the issue of offering Namaz at the new mosque. Several were even injured and police had to resort to lathi charge.
Addressing the protestors, KI Abdul Khader Kukkila also strongly resented the Wakf Board directive against offering Namaz at the new mosque and said the declaration was against Shariah or Islamic law.
He was also critical of Health Minister UT Khader for his stance on the issue.
K Ashraf, former mayor also spoke on the occasion. Several Muslim leaders took part in the protest.
The demands of the protestors was to revoke the Karnataka State Wakf Board orders banning namaz in the new mosque, to authorize Qazis or religious heads to make decisions on mosques and madarasas without any political intervention and to terminate two persons namely Shafi and Riyaz Khan from the Board.
