More thrust has to be laid on R&D : Pallam Raju

Mangalore, Jan4,2013 : Union HRD Minister Pallam Raju has said that more thrust has to be laid on Research and Development by spending more on this sector.

Speaking to press persons at District Congress Office on January 4, Friday, the minister said at present only a very small per centage of the GDP was spent on R&D. On the educational scenario in the state, the minister said the state which was equipped with good facilities must aim for higher benchmark.

He also asked the state government to improve its performance in the agriculture and knowledge sector and focus on increasing its competency. He even directed the state to ensure necessary steps to effectively implement the Right to Education Act.

Mangalore MLA UT Khader who was present, accused the state government of failing to give due attention to the educational sector.

DCC President Ramanatha Rai, former Suratkal MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, Mayor Gulzar Banu, PV Mohan, JR Lobo, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, Ivan D’Souza, TK Sudhir, Mohammed Badruddin, Sadashiv Ullal, Praveenchandra Alva, Mithun Rai and others were present.
