Missing mother, child found dead in Netravathi River near Harekala; suicide suspected

Mangaluru, March 30, 2024: On Friday night, the bodies of a woman and her one-year-old child were discovered in the Netravathi river near Harekala Kadavu, within the jurisdiction of the Konaje police station. There are suspicions that the woman might have taken her own life by leaping into the river along with her child.

The deceased woman, identified as Chaitra (30), wife of Nagaraj and a resident of Adyar, had been seen walking across the bridge with her one-year-old child Diyansh around noon on Friday at Harekala Kadavu. Local residents had observed them near the river.

Later in the afternoon, her family noticed her absence and initiated a search. A missing person’s case was lodged at the Mangaluru Rural police station.

At approximately 8:30 pm, the bodies of the woman and child were found in the Netravathi River near Harekala Kadavu.

Authorities from the Konaje police have arrived at the scene and are conducting an investigation.The precise cause of death remains undisclosed at this time.

It was reported that the family had celebrated Diyansh’s first birthday at  sevashrama in Deralakate on Thursday.
