The miscreants surrounded the Kalmath Jamia Masjid at Pallikidda in Kodavoor to prevent a group of Gujarathi Muslims from entering.

According to the people of the region, a group of around 20 tourists from Gujarat had arrived at Udupi for sight seeing and they wanted to pay their obligatory Friday visit to the mosque.

The members of the Sangh Parivar have added fuel to the fire by stating that the tourists were actually anti-social elements.

The police arrived at the mosque to disperse the crowd and maintain law and order. Ravi Kumar, the superintendent of police, urged the tourists to leave the place.

For a long time, the mosque’s managing committee has been accusing a group of communal elements of attempting to prevent the construction of a new mosque building.
