Mangalore, Jan 6,2013 : Dr KA Ashok Pai, Chairman of the Karnataka State Mental Health Task Force has said that the Task Force has put forth proposals to open residential schools for mentally challenged children in every district headquarters, psycho social rehabilitation centres, de-addiction centres and rehabilitation centres for cerebral palsy patients.
Speaking to press persons in Mangalore on January 5, Saturday, he said the government has agreed to include all the four proposals of the Task Force in the coming budget and also to provide land and building for the centres. Dr Pai said the task of establishing and developing the centres will start once the funds are allocated for the purpose. Dr Pai said the de-addiction centres will come up at Gulbarga, Dakshina Kannada, Shimoga and Bangalore.
Dr Pai, also a well-known psychiatrist, further informed that the Task Force has already conducted mental health programmes at Shimoga, Bangalore, Bellary and Chamrajnagar districts. Such programmes, he said, would also be held in all district headquarters in the next phase. He also informed that the district units of Mental Health Task Force would also be formed shortly.
