Bantwal, Dec 29, 2013: Two men who were travelling in a Maruti 800 car  escaped the jaws of death by a hair’s breadth  at Thumbay near here on December 29, Sunday, when the car all of a sudden went up in flames.

The mishap took place near the BA College at Thumbay when the car owner Shameer  hailing from Kunjakal and Sharief were heading towards BC Road from Farangipete.

The two who  smelt something burning inside the car, immediately stopped the car and stepped out. Within minutes the car was gutted in the fire. It is suspected that a leakage in the fuel tank might have resulted in the fire.

Fire service vehicles rushed to the spot to put out the fire.
