Mangalore, Sept. 19, 2012: Manish Karbikar, who took over as the new police commissioner of Mangalore on September 19, Wednesday said that he will give top priority to good police – public relationships.

Mr. Karbikar (39) of Chattisgarh said that he will first get familiar with the city.

The new police commissioner was warmly welcomed by IGP (western range) Prathap Reddy, and was given a guard of honor in the premises of the Mangalore Police Commissionerate. Among those present was DCP Muthuraya.

An electronics engineering graduate, Mr. Karbikar had served in BHEL for six months before joining the police force. He then served as an ASP in Bellary, Mandya, Gadag, and the Rajbhavan.

He had also served as a police advisor in the International Peacekeeping Force in Sudan, North Africa for one year. He was the SP of the crime branch cell in Bangalore after which he took over as the SP of Mysore. He also served as the SP of Gulbarga, after which he was the DIG (civil rights enforcement) in Bangalore before taking over as the police commissioner of Mangalore.

Karbikar’s predecessor Seemanth Kumar Singh is now at a training session in Scotland.
