Mangaluru, Oct 21, 2025: In a swift operation, Mangaluru City Police arrested two interstate burglars within 20 hours of a major theft that took place at an apartment complex in Hat Hill, Lalbagh. The accused were apprehended in Bengaluru, and the stolen valuables — including gold ornaments, cash, foreign currency, and a mobile phone worth around Rs 20 lakh — were recovered.

According to a police press release, the incident occurred during the night of October 19–20, 2025, at an apartment in the Lalbagh, Hat Hill area under the Urwa Police Station limits. Burglars broke into three flats and stole gold jewellery valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh, Rs 5,000 in cash, 3,000 Dirhams (around Rs 70,000), and a mobile phone. The complaint was filed by Mr. Riyaz Rasheed, following which a case (Crime No. 104/2025) was registered under Sections 331(4) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)-2023 at Urwa Police Station.

A team comprising senior police officers, the Urwa Police Station team, dog squad, and fingerprint experts visited the scene and launched an intensive investigation. Within 20 hours of registering the case, the police successfully traced the culprits and arrested them in Bengaluru with the assistance of Bengaluru City Police.

Arrested accused:

Abhijit Das (24), son of Ravindo Das, resident of Panchagori, Medinova Road, Ambika Pur Part 10, Meherpur Post, Cachar District, Assam.

Deba Das (21), son of Dilip Kumar Das, resident near Sri Durga Mandir, Meherpur Village, Cachar District, Assam.

Police said that Abhijit Das is a habitual offender with multiple burglary cases registered against him in Bengaluru and Assam.

The duo was produced before the court and taken into police custody for further investigation to determine their involvement in other theft cases.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of the DCP (Crime) and coordinated by the ACP, Central Sub-Division, along with the PI and staff of Urwa Police Station, who were instrumental in cracking the case swiftly.
