Mangaluru, January 22, 2026: In the high-profile ‘Love–Sex–Deception’ case that surfaced in Puttur, the final date for mediation has been set. If the wedding does not take place by January 31, a naming ceremony for the child will be held on February 7, and no further mediation will be allowed, warned Pratibha Kulai, member of the Backward Classes Commission.
Speaking at a press conference at the Mangaluru Press Club, she said that on January 24, a date had been fixed for the child’s naming ceremony in Kalladka. However, the child’s grandmother, Namita, received a call from Madhu Acharya, an official of the Udupi Acharya community, stating that Krishna J. Rao’s family had agreed to the marriage but requested some time and asked that the cradle ceremony not be held immediately. The naming ceremony was subsequently rescheduled.
Pratibha Kulai stated, “In the past, we were misled for six months, and we will not allow that to happen this time. Only Namita and her daughter are required to attend the mediation, and our side will not participate. There is concern that anything could happen if we go.” She added that the mediation could take place either at the Puttur Police Station or in the presence of the Mangaluru SP.
The Puttur MLA has also stated that Krishna J. Rao’s family will not agree to the marriage. The case is already in court, and there are concerns that drama is being staged to avoid legal consequences. Kulai alleged that earlier, demands were made to send the child to an ashram, withdraw the case, or obtain divorce after the marriage.
She emphasized that the wedding should take place legally, whether online or in any lawful manner, and the case should conclude with accountability for both parties. If the marriage does not occur, divorce should proceed as per the law.
Since a condition was imposed that Namita should not attend any gatherings or meetings, she did not participate. Pratibha Kulai warned that if the marriage is not held by January 31, there will be no further mediation, and the child’s naming ceremony will be held on February 7, while legal proceedings will continue.
