Mangaluru: Car driver jailed, fined in Yeyyadi bike rider death case

Mangaluru, Jan 9, 2026: In connection with an accident that occurred at the Yeyyadi Junction on June 11, 2023, in which a bike rider was killed, a court has sentenced Vinod Kumar, a resident of Santosh Nagar in Vamanjoor, to 15 months of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹16,500.

In the accident, bike rider Veerappa Veerabhadrappa Haligeri and his son, who was riding pillion, sustained injuries. Veerappa was thrown onto the windshield of the car and then fell onto the road, suffering severe head injuries. He was rushed to hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A case in this regard was registered at the Traffic East Police Station.

Yeyyadi bike accident case


During the investigation, it was found that the car involved in the accident did not have a valid insurance policy or a valid pollution under control (PUC) certificate at the time of the incident. The charge sheet was filed by Gopalakrishna Bhat, Inspector of the Traffic East Police Station.

After hearing the case, Judge Fawaz P.A. of the Mangaluru JMFC 8th Court convicted the accused.

On behalf of the prosecution, Assistant Public Prosecutor Geetha Rai examined some witnesses, while Assistant Public Prosecutor Aaron D’Souza of Vittla examined the remaining witnesses and argued the case.
