Mangalore, Aug 30, 2014: Sri Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations were marked by gaiety and religious fervour across the coastal districts on Aug 29, Friday. Lord Ganesha also known by several names including Vinayaka and Vighna Nivaraka and who is considered the Lord of Intellect and Wisdom is worshipped with great devotion at various places in Mangalore. Large number of devotees visited the Sharavu Sri Mahaganapathi Temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha in Mangalore.
Idols of Lord Ganesha have been installed by various Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava Samithis in Mangalore, while several devout Hindus also install Ganesha idols at home and worship them. The idols worshipped at residences are immersed in wells or lakes later in the night.
Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava celebrations are being held at Nehru Maidan on behalf of the Hindu Yuva Sene, at Bunts Hostel on behalf of Sri Siddi Vinayaka Pratishtana, at KSRTC bus stand Bejai on behalf of the KSRTC Bus Employees Association and other places. At Sanghaniketan Mayor Mahabala Marla inaugurated the 67th public Ganeshotsava celebrations by the lighting of the lamp.
People are flocking these places to catch a glimpse of the beautiful huge idols of Lord Ganesha which are decorated tastefully and offer their prayers to the Vighna Nivaraka. Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava celebrations in Mangalore will continue till a week.
