Mangalore, April 14, 2012: One Railway Mail Service (RMS) employee dies and another looses both legs while crossing railway track carrying mail bags in Mangalore Central Railway station today, April 14, 2012 at 4.30 AM. The condition of the RMS employee who lost both legs seem to be critical.

The victims identified as: Mr MP Profesar, aged 54, hailing from Hassan who died on the spot, run over by Parasuram Express and Mr. Santhosh Kumar , aged 42,  resident of Kadri Kambala, Mangalore who lost both legs. Santhosh Kumar is admitted in a private hospital and his condition is believed to be very critical.


The unfortunate incident occurred early in the morning around 4.30 AM. Both RMS employees were on duty carting mail bags from Westcoast Express arrived early in the morning today. They were supposed to cart mail bags in a trolley and go through the safe crossing path. However, both were carrying bags on hand and crossing main track in the station. They did not see the Parasuram Express which was being backed up to the platform No.1. Both were run over by the train


The railway authorities have ordered an enquiry into the incident. More details awaited
