Mangaluru, Mar 27, 2023: In a tragic incident, a man from Harekala Baithar  slipped  and drowned in the Netravathi river  on March 26, Sunday.

The deceased is Prakash Gatti (46). Prakash had invited his friends and relatives for the annual fair of the nearby Kodamanittaya Daivasthana. Later he along with 20 of his friends and relatives had been to the Netravathi river banks close by his plantation. There areca tree (Bambu) was placed horizontally on the river and Prakash and his friends were walking on it when Prakash slipped and fell into the river. Though he was an expert swimmer he could not come up and was caught in the slush.

When local swimmers could not bring him up, sand mining worker of Uttar Pradesh origin managed to lift him up. Prakash who was critical was rushed to the hospital, but he breathed his last on way.

He was working in MCF since several years and was also a progressive farmer. He is survived by his mother, wife and two sons. Konaje police have registered a case.
