Mangalore, April 12, 2013 : Lolaksha, President of Ahinda has urged the authorities to make speed governors and GPS mandatory for all tankers carrying highly inflammable materials.
Speaking to reporters here on April 12, Friday, he also urged the district administration to initiate action against the HPCL company which is responsible for the tragedy. He also said that Ahinda would block all tankers passing through Perne on the NH 48 if the administration fails to ensure that all tankers had speed governors and GPS.
Coming down heavily on the HPCL for failing to reach the spot of the mishap, as soon as it took place, he said by the time the officials arrived,the fire had been doused by the locals and fire service personnel.
Expressing regret over the fact that precious lives have been lost and much property destroyed in the LPG tanker tragedy, he alleged that the compensation of Rs one lakh to the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured, announced by the district administration, has not yet reached the families. The Ahinda also demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of the deceased and Rs 10 lakh to those injured.
He further urged good treatment to the injured and measures to rehabilitate them.
Ahinda Vice President Stany D’Costa, Secretary Savita, Honorary President Vasudev Bolar, Vice president Sathish Baikampady and others were present.
