Sangeetha R. Nayak, former Corporator of Mangaluru City Corporation, was the Chief Guest. B.K. Kumar, Retired Chief Manager of Indian Overseas Bank, was the Resource Person. Dr. Molly S. Chaudhuri, Director of MSNIM, presided over the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Sangeetha R. Nayak described Rani Abbakka as a symbol of extraordinary bravery and determination. “Her courage, leadership, and timeless qualities continue to inspire us today. Students must imbibe these traits to face challenges with confidence and contribute meaningfully to society,” she said.

Delivering the keynote address, B.K. Kumar said it was an honour to be part of the event marking Abbakka @500. “History often glorifies kings and emperors, but the true spirit of our civilization also shines through the bravery of its women,” he noted. Recalling Abbakka’s defiance of Portuguese forces who sought control of the west coast nearly 500 years ago, he added: “She was not merely a queen on the throne but a strategist, a leader, and a patriot who mobilized her people and defended the land with unmatched valour.” He also drew parallels with Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi and Kittur Rani Chennamma, pointing out that women played a vital role in India’s struggle for freedom.

In her presidential address, Dr. Molly S. Chaudhuri emphasized the relevance of Rani Abbakka’s leadership to today’s management students. “Strategic thinking, innovation, networking, adaptability and resilience under pressure are as vital in the corporate boardroom as they were in Abbakka’s battlefield,” she said. Urging students to carry Abbakka’s spirit into their careers, she added: “Leadership is not about the size of your kingdom or your company, but about the size of your vision, courage, and adaptability. Courage has no gender; when the moment comes, stand tall, fight for what you believe in and support each other.”

The programme began with a welcome address and introduction by Assistant Professor Manasa. Karishma A. Shetty, a second-year MBA student, proposed the vote of thanks, while Divya, also a second-year MBA student, compered the event.
