Mangalore, Sep 10, 2012 : There are rumors that MP Nalin Kumar Kateel might become the president of the state BJP. Since Eshwarappa, who is president of the state BJP at present, is on the verge of resigning, BJP seniors are thinking about handing over the post to MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who happens to be a Bunt. Even the Sangh Parivar approves of this move.
Mr. Kateel, who was once active in the Sangh Parivar, defeated B. Janardhan Poojary, the Congress leader, and became the MP during his very first attempt. The politician is from Paltadi in Puttur, and right from childhood, he has been an active RSS member. When he was just 18, he became the Prachaarak of the Sangh. He then worked as the chief secretary of the DK unit of the BJP and is now the vice president of the state BJP.
When questioned by reporters, however, Mr. Kateel refused to comment.
Reporters also spoke to Nirani, who said that he is not aspiring for the post of president of the state BJP, but wants B. S. Yeddyurappa, former chief minister, or Ananth Kumar, MP of Bangalore, to become the president of the state BJP. He also said that he will happy to continue being a BJP worker.
Some associates of Nirani said that the BJP high command discussed the matter with Nirani and requested him to become the president of the state BJP.
It may be recalled that the BJP high command had called Mr. Yeddyurappa and had suggested Shobha Karandlaje, energy minister; C. M. Udasi, public works minister; and Mr. Nirani for this post.
The party, however, is interested in conducting elections under the leadership of a Lingayat, revealed reliable sources.
