Lokayukta sleuths swoop on Gangolli port office; arrests officer

Kundapur, Dec 7, 2013:  Lokayukta sleuths of Udupi led by DySP Umesh Shet raided the office of the Gangolli Port on December 6, Friday and seized unaccounted cash to the tune of Rs 39,700.  The Assistant Port Officer Kishore Mada was  also arrested.

The raid followed complaints since some time that  the officials were charging over and above the prescribed fee for renewal of boat licences. On gathering definite information that the complaints were true, the Lokayukta officials raided the office. It is learnt, the raiding team found over Rs 80,000 cash in the office of which they found  that a cash of Rs 39,700 was unaccounted. There is also information that two boat owners had paid a fee of Rs 10,000 and Rs 45000 respectively on Friday.

Several documents in the office have also been seized. The arrested officer who hails from Mangalore, has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.

The raid has been welcomed by boat owners who were fed up with the high handedness of the port officials who forced them to cough up exorbitant fees for renewal of boat licences, since the past few years.
