Kundapur: Gang of five arrested for bid to loot Kerala pilgrims near Kollur

Kundapur, Dec 17, 2013: Kollur Police have arrested a group of six persons which attempted to loot pilgrims of Kerala who were heading towards Kollur. The arrests were made near Vandse on December 16, Monday morning.

Those arrested are Mohammad Rizwan (25), Mohammadali Shanvara (21), Faizal (20), Saifu alias Saifuddin (19) and Harshith Shetty (21). A Swift car, swords, machetes, rods and knives have been seized from them.

It is learnt, they had tried to intercept a Santro car in which the families of Shyamkumar and his friend were travelling towards Kollur on December 16, Monday at around 2.30 am at a place called Idur on the Kollur state highway. Shyam, who had noticed another car following them, raised the speed of his car and headed straight  towards Kollur police station where he complained to the police after giving details of the registration number of the  car of the suspects.

It is learnt, the assailants who had sensed danger had returned in great speed resulting in the overturning of their car  near Chitheri. They were subsequently arrested by the Kollur police.

Kollur police are investigating the case.
