Kundapur: Five rescued as fishing boat collides ashore near Hangarakatte; Rs 10 lakh loss

Kundapur, Sep 20, 2025: A fishing boat sustained major damage after colliding with the shore near Hangarakatte due to a technical failure, leading to losses estimated at over Rs 10 lakh.

The boat, Mahakali, owned by Mahesh of Kodi Bengre, had set out from Kodi Bengre fishing harbour on the morning of September 17. While fishing near Hangarakatte harbour later that afternoon, the vessel developed an engine problem that could not be fixed despite several attempts.

Boat tragedy

Strong winds and rough waves eventually dragged the boat ashore, where it crashed near Kodi in Kanyana village. All five crew members managed to escape unhurt, but the boat and its equipment suffered heavy damage.

Kota police have registered a case in connection with the incident.
