Mangaluru, Nov 1, 2025: Notorious gangster Topi Naufal (38), who was facing more than 25 criminal cases in various police stations under Mangaluru Commissionerate limits, was brutally hacked to death near the Uppala railway gate under Manjeshwar police station limits on Friday morning.

A resident of Faizal Nagar, Bajal in Mangaluru, Naufal had become active in the Kasaragod area after police intensified their crackdown on drug activities in Mangaluru. It is suspected that he was called to the Uppala railway gate around 8 a.m. by a group under the pretext of holding talks and was then attacked with swords, leading to his death.
Manjeshwar police visited the spot and sent the body to Periyaram Medical College for post-mortem. They said the exact details of the murder would emerge after the autopsy report.
The body was found near the railway track with deep gashes on the head and neck. He was wearing only a vest and pants, raising suspicion that his shirt might have been torn off during a scuffle. It is also said that he had arrived at the spot on a scooter.
‘Topi’ Naufal was known in Mangaluru as a notorious rowdy involved in drug use and peddling. He was the prime accused in the 2017 double murder case of Jiya and another person in Farangipet and was then associated with the Maripalla Jabbar and Tallath gangs.
After Tallath and Jabbar became inactive, Naufal reportedly formed his own gang and remained involved in criminal activities including attempted murder, extortion, drug trafficking, and illegal gold trade. He had multiple cases registered against him in Kankanady Town, Vamanjoor, Surathkal, and Kavoor police stations.
Police suspect that his murder at Uppala might have been carried out by a rival gang from the same region. Manjeshwar police are investigating the case.
