Kargil martyrs remembered on Kargil Vijay Divas

Mangalore , July 27, 2012 : A large number of people, including ex army personnel, observed Kargil Vijay Divas on July 26, Thursday by offering tributes to the soldiers who died or sustained injuries in the Kargil War. The Dakshina Kannada Ex Servicemen Association organized the event in Kadri.

 

 

 

Kargil Vijay Divas is observed all over India on July 26 in commemoration of India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999.

In his address, Colonel Sharath Bhandary said that July 26, 1999 is a proud day in Indian history, the day on which India won against Pakistan. He said that 518 soldiers died in the war and 1,211 were injured. Four of them were honored with the Param Chakra, nine wih the Mahavir Chakra, and 55 with the Vir Chakra.

People offered flowers to the martyrs and lit candles in their memory.

K. C. Prabhu of Lions Club, Colonel Balakrishna, I. N. Rai, Radhkrishna Shetty, former president of the Ex Servicemen’s Association, and others were also present.
