Karanth’s 110th birth anniversary celebrated

Mangalore, Oct 2011 : The Kannada Sahitya Parishad of DK district and the Kalkura Prathishtana jointly celebrated the 110th birth anniversary of Shivaram Karanth in Town Hall on Oct 10. Dr. U. P. Upadyaya and Dr. Sushila Upadyaya inaugurated the event in the presence of several dignitaries on dais.

Addressing the gathering, District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar said that Karanth’s contribution to art and culture is impressive, adding that Karanth has to his credit over 417 books and several novels. He urged parents to teach their children about Karanth.

Lauding the Kalkura Prathishtana for recognizing artists and honoring them, he congratulated the organizer for keeping Karanth alive.

 

 

 

 

Krishna J. Palemar felicitated Master Vittal, the dance guru, with a shawl, a memento, a peta, fruits, and a citation.

A cultural presentation, including a play called Bhoja Kalidasa, formed part of the event.

Dr. Harish Kumar, the commissioner of MCC; K. Anil, the managing director of IOB; and John D’Souza, the DGM of Corporation Bank were also present.
