January 25: The Justice B. K. Somashekara Commission, which was appointed by the state government to investigate the church attacks of 2008, will submit its final report to the chief minister on Jan 28, 2011.
The commission launched its investigation on Oct 2008 and held several sittings in Mangalore, Bangalore, Davanagere, and Udupi. It accepted a total of 1,019 petitions and examined 754 witnesses during a total of 300 days. Thirty-four advocates representing various sections of society presented their cases before the commission.
The commission heard the final arguments in the course of 53 sittings and submitted an interim report on Feb 1, 2010.
