Journalism students’ forum holds talk on home stay attack

Mangalore, Aug 6, 2012 : Madhyama Vedike, a forum of journalism students in Mangalore University, organized a talk on the recent attack on students at Morning Mist Home Stay in Padil, on Aug 5, Sunday.

The resources persons were Naveen Shetty Soorinje, reporter for Kasturi 24x7, and Sudipto Mondal, senior reporter for The Hindu.

Mr. Soorinje said that journalism students not only need to master linguistic skills, but also need to understand the importance of adhering to journalistic ethics. Since journalists are at the spot to report, not to support, the news has to be fair and unbiased, he added.

An interactive session was held after the input sessions.

Prof. Sathya Narayan Malli Patna, head of the department of journalism, and Principal H. S. Lakshmi Narayan Bhat also addressed the students.
