Bangalore, June 13, 2013: Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo has demanded a fresh probe into the series of church attacks which took place in the state during the tenure of the erstwhile BJP government.
The MLA made the above demand while replying to the motion of thanks moved in the Assembly to the Governor’s address on June 12, Wednesday. Pointing out that the report of the Somasekara Commission of enquiry which probed into the church attacks, was full of contradictions, the MLA said it has underscored the need for a fresh probe.
He also stated that the Somasekara Commission report does not pinpoint any individual or organization as being responsible for the attacks and that neither has it named the politicians who might have instigated the attack. He further took serious cognizance of the fact that so far none have been punished in this case.
He also requested the government to initiate stern action against those resorting to goondaism in the name of moral policing in Mangalore, thereby denting the image of the city.
He further charged the former BJP government of saffronising text books and demanded formation of a new text book committee of experts after dissolving the earlier committee.
