Mangalore, July 30, 2012: The JD(S) organized a protest on July 31, Tuesday against the attack on students celebrating their friend’s birthday at Morning Mist Home Stay by Hindu Janajagarana Vedike (HJV) activists.

Although Amarnath Shetty, former MLA and JD (S) leader, demanded to know who had lodged a complaint against the HJV, he did not give reasons for wanting to know the identity of the complainant. He, however, demanded that the culprits must be arrested at the earliest possible.

He also stated that he holds the current BJP-led state government responsible for the pathetic law and order condition in the country.

M. B. Sadashiv, president of the JD (S) district president, said that the party will intensify its protests if all the culprits are not arrested within one week.

Since Section 144 has been clamped on the city, the city police arrested the protestors and took them away in police vans. However, they were released later.

Around 100 people took part in this protest.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, Sushil Noronha said that he is in charge of the ward where the home stay is located and can vouch that such an incident has never taken place before. He said that the activists ought to have taken women with them if they were really bothered about Indian culture and wanted to protest. Stating that Mangalore is the home of many communities, and not just one, he said that the incident has brought shame to the district.

Among the protestors were Shashiraj Shetty, chief secretary of the district JD(S); D. M.Aslam, minority cell president; Corporator Aziz; and many others.
