Independence Cup 2010 begins at Nehru Maidan

Mangalore, July 24: The 14th Independence Day Football Cup Tournament initiated by Dakshina Kannada Foodball Association (DKFA) began at Nehru Ground here on Saturday, July 24 with colorful note.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rajani Duganna, Mayor of Mangalore inaugurated the independence tournamnet in Mangalore this morning. Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said events like the football tournament that  will promote to promote the sports spirit in younger generation. Commending the Dakshina Kannada Foodball Association for conducting this kind of sports in the region each year, she said the tournament will help to unite the football players of various teams in this ground. She has also advised the organizers to host football tournament in future. It is a biggest event on the district’s football calendar, featuring 155 teams and over 2,000 players. One of the main attractions of the 14th Independence Cup Football Tournament 2010 is that 10 all-girl teams have come forward to vie in the tournament.

The football players who participate in the tournament can use this rare opportunity to their full extent and the tournament paves the way to reach state and national level tournaments said Mohammed Hussain Bolar, secretary of DKFA. 

D M Aslam, President of DKFA, Masthan Ahmed, International Football player, A K Niyaz, Director, A K Boards and Doors Divaker, Corporator Vijay Suvarna and GB Member, DKFA were present on the occasion.
