Ijjodu is the first Kannada film made with corporate funds: M. S. Satyu

Mangalore, July 22: “My new film “Ijjodu,” which is based on the devadasi system of a few centuries back, is the first film made with the help of corporate funds,” said M. S. Satyu, the renowned director, during a press meet held at Press Club on July 22, Thursday. The film is scheduled to be released in New Chitra tomorrow.

 

M. S. Satyu told reporters that “Ijjodu” is a serious film, which was made with a cause, owing to which it took around 12 years to make. The film is special because no dubbing has been done after the shooting, but spot recording was done. Meera Jasmine dubbed her own voice for the first time in the film, he said.

He said that Satish Sawanth, who recorded the film, expired in the month of February. Sudheer Attavar of Mangalore wrote the lyrics for this film. These lyrics are special in the sense that they contain more poetry than prose unlike most modern film lyrics. The film is packed with 90 minutes of information without any background music, dance, or song. The choreographer is Mayuri Upadyav, a classical dancer from Mangalore, who has used contemporary as well as ballad style. Different languages are used throughout the film, he said. He also informed that two prints of the film will be released; and one of the prints will be retained for the state award.

 

Actor Anirudd said that he is delighted to visit Mangalore and that he feels honored to work with a great director like M. S. Satyu, adding that the film contains all the excellent features of a commercial film. G. S. Bhasker, the cinematographer, said that M. S. Satyu is a fatherly figure and that most of the scenes of the film have been done in optical print. Lyricist Sudheer Attavar was also present during the press conference.
