Hindu organizations to protest against anti-Hindu provisions of anti-communal violence bill

Mangalore, Nov 23, 2011 : A number of Hindu organizations, under the banner of the Hindu Hitarakshana Vedike, have decided to organize a massive protest on Nov 23 Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. on Nehru Maidan against certain provisions of the Prevention of Communal and Targeted Violence (Access to Justice and Reparations) Bill 2010, which is in the process of being passed during the winter session of the Parliament. 


 

About 50,000 people are expected to participate in this protest. According to the protestors, certain provisions of the bill are against the interests of the Hindu community. 

A procession will be organized from Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Circle at 3:00 p.m. to Nehru Maidan. The spiritual leaders of mutts such as Vajradehi, Kolya, and Manila will participate in the meeting. 

Muniyappa, the organizational leader of Dharma Jagagan’s Karnataka provincial unit, and Dr. Prabhakar Bhat Kalladka, the samparka pramukh of the RSS (south central region) will address the gathering. 

A number of meetings, rallies, interactions, debates, and others were held at different localities in a bid to make the public aware of the disastrous effects this bill can have if it is passed. R. Shrikar Prabhu, the president of the BJP (Mangalore south unit), and Ramesh S., the working president of the Vedike, said that they have received a lot of support from the people. 

Hindu leaders such as Manohar Tulajaram, Jagadish Shenava, Harish Achar, K. T. Suvarna, Durga Vahini District Saha Pramukh Surekha, ABVP Secretary Ramesh, Sharan Pumpwell of Bajrang Dal, and RSS Pranta Kayavahika Dr. Kamala Bhat have urged Hindus to participate in the protest meet in large numbers. 

Traffic Diverted 

Meanwhile, traffic will be diverted at certain key areas in the city from 1:00 p.m. till the end of the event today. 

Bus plying from Talapady and BC Road will reach Kankanady Circle through Kankanady Old Road and reach Cascia Junction through Mulihitlu and Valencia before heading back by the same road. 

Buses plying from Bondel through Bejai and from Kavoor through Kuntikana will turn right at Lalbhag Circle and reach Lady Hill Circle before returning by the same route. They will not be permitted to enter PVS Circle. 

Express buses plying from Udupi will have to reach Lady Hill through Urwa Store or Mallikatte through Nanthoor before heading back. 

Buses leaving the city will have to take the Hampankatta and KS Rao Road and buses entering KSRTC through Pumpwell will have to take the Nanthoor, KPT, and Bejai route and return through Lalbagh, Bunts Hostel, Mallikatta, and Horticulture Department. 

Vehicles have been completely banned from Jyothi to Hampankatta Clock Tower, AB Shetty Circle, and Nehru Maidan. 

To beef up the security, the Mangalore police commissioner has pressed into service extra reserve police platoons.
