Health Minister’s midnight raid sends jitters to govt hospital staff

Mangalore, May 28, 2013: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader sent shivers down the spines of the doctors and staff of two government hospitals which he raided in a midnight operation  on May 29, Wednesday.

The  MLA in casual clothing,  had arrived at the hospitals namely Jayanagar Government Hospital and Government HSIS Gosha Hospital, Shivajinagar in a private vehicle, giving the staff a shock of their lifetime as most of them were fast asleep when the minister arrived.

The minister who took the doctors, staff and security personnel to task warned them of stringent action if they were found neglecting their duties in the future.The minister during his raid also found that the records at the Gosha Hospital were not in order.

The minister’s raids followed complaints that the two hospitals were sending back patients needing emergency care, particularly accident victims, citing inadequate staff, specialists and equipment.

The Minister who convened a meeting of medical officials on Wednesday morning, directed the authorities to ensure that the government hospitals provided good treatment. The government does not want any poor patient to be deprived of treatment, he said.
