Mangalore, Dec 2, 2012: The famous Kadri Kambala, also known as Kadri Devara Kambala, was inaugurated on December 2, Sunday in the presence of several dignitaries.










P Jayaram Bhat, Chairman of Karnataka Bank, who was one of the chief guests, said Kambala signified the distinct culture and tradition of the coastal belt. He also appreciated the organisers for the plans to hold even rural games alongside Kambala, thereby helping rekindle folk glory.
Another chief guest, A Sadananda Shetty, entrepreneur and Chairman of Shree Devi Education Trust, said traditional sports like Kambala went a long way in promoting peace and harmony and exhorted the participants to play the game with the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Several rural games including Kesaru Gadde Ota (Marshy field race) for children and youth, Thappangayi, treasure hunt and tug of war were also the special attractions of the day and were participated by several enthusiastic people. Even a photo contest and an exhibition of photographs was arranged on the occasion.
During the course of the day, even Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar arrived at the Kadri Kambala venue along with Belur Gopalkrishna, Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, state Minister, Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker, B Nagaraj Shetty, JD(S) leader and Krishna Palemar, MLA.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister released a book published by Yuga Purusha Publishers ‘Namma Tuluvere Yeduru Kathe’ and a CD comprising exquisite photographs of Kadri Kambala, captured by Ravi Posavanike.
Photographers Sudhaker Ermal, Bhasker Amtoor, Ravi Posavanike and Chandrahas Kotekar who won prizes in the photo contests were awarded by the CM on the occasion. He even felicitated Kadri Navaneeth Shetty, Convenor of Kadri Kambala Committee.
In his address, the CM was all praise for the people of the coastal region for the great interest which they evinced in traditional sports.
Among others present on the occasion were Tulu Academy President Umanath Kotian, Corporator Roopa D Bangera, Yakshagana critic M Prabhakar Joshi and Youth Congress leader Amrit Kadri.
