Ullal, May 15, 2026: Several two-wheeler riders were injured after slipping on fish oil spilled on the road from a canter transporting fish meal oil from a factory in Kotekar on Thursday night. Angry locals later stopped the vehicle and staged a protest at Ullal Baila.
According to reports, fish meal factories are operating in Kotekar, and a canter carrying fish meal oil from Kotekar to the New Mangalore Port developed a technical fault, leading to a large-scale oil leak on the road stretch from Abbakka Circle to Ullal Baila.
The oil spill made the road extremely slippery, causing several two-wheeler riders to skid and sustain injuries. Enraged by the incident, local residents intercepted the canter at Ullal Baila and staged a protest demanding action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, U. T. Khader directed the Mangaluru Police Commissioner to initiate appropriate legal action in connection with the incident.
Khader also stated that the fish meal company must provide suitable compensation to the injured riders.
He said the authorities should ensure that such incidents do not recur. While expressing support for industrial growth, Khader stressed that inconvenience and danger to the public cannot be tolerated and urged factory owners to take necessary precautions to avoid causing hardship to residents.
