Mangaluru, Feb 23, 2025: Police have arrested Abdul Nasir (52), a Kannur resident, in connection with the fake ED raid on the residence of beedi businessman Sulaiman in Bolanthoor, Vitla. The gang looted crores of rupees during the incident, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to eight.

According to police, Nasir acted as a link between local accused Sirajuddin and the main conspirator, a former ASI. Sirajuddin, who had worked in Sulaiman’s beedi company, allegedly quit after a dispute and sought revenge by orchestrating the raid with Nasir’s help. Disguised as ED officers, the gang looted Rs 1 crore and coerced the businessman to hand over an additional Rs 3 crore, hidden in a sack at the house.

The raid took place on the night of January 3. The gang confiscated the family’s mobile phones and convinced them the operation was legitimate. Before leaving, they directed the family to retrieve their phones from a hotel in BC Road. Sulaiman’s son followed them but the gang escaped. Suspicion arose only after discovering the phones were switched off, prompting the family to alert the police.

Previously arrested suspects include Shafeer Babu (48), a former ASI from Kodungallur Police Station, Thrissur; Iqbal (38) from Parlia; Sirajuddin Narsh (37) from Kolnadu; Ansar (27) from Mangaluru’s Padil; and Anil Fernandes (49), Sachin T.S. (29) and Shabin S. (27), all from Kottayam, Kerala.

Investigations are ongoing.
