Mangalore, June 11, 2012: Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, vice-chancellor of Nitte University, inaugurated the brand new Vikas PU College in Town Hall on June 11, Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the two years students spend in pre-university colleges are the most precious in their lives because it is the time they think of their careers. Predicting that the new Vikas PU College will be an educational landmark in Mangalore, he said that the college will bloom along with the finest educational institutions in Mangalore.
Gopal Hosur, IPG (intelligence) of Bangalore, was the chief guest of the event. In his address, he said that modern parents suffer from exam tension more than their children and warned that this is a sure way to kill students’ interest in studies.
Revealing statistics, Mr. Hosur said that 35 percent of India’s population is below 15 years of age, owing to which the need for fine educational institutions is felt more than before.
Dr. Kaverappa, ex vice-chancellor of Mangalore University, was the guest of honor. In his address, he said that PUC is the first step to a student’s professional life.
J. Krishna Palemar, MLA and former minister, presided over the event. The guests of honor were Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, chairman of Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation; Ushaprabha N. Nayak, secretary of Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation; M. Jagannath Kamath, chartered accountant and vice chairman of ICAI Mangalore Chapter; and Prasanna Kumar, member of the advisory committee of Vikas PU College.
Dr. D. Shripathi Rao, correspondent of Vikas PU College, said that Vikas PU College is located on a large campus at Mary Hill and will function in collaboration with Expert Coaching to give students high quality PU education. The experienced lecturers of Expert Coaching Institution will teach the students of Vikas PU College, he added. The college offers subjects such as English (mandatory), Hindi/Kannada/Sanskrit, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology (PCMB), and Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science (PCMC).
The college will admit 240 students in 3 batches, with 80 students in each batch, he said, adding that 130 students have already been admitted.
Among the dignitaries on the dais were Vikas PU College Principal Dr. K. Rajendra and CEO Parthasarathi.
