Mangaluru, July 28, 2023: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan has said that a decentralized scheme has been prepared for disaster management in the district.

Speaking to reporters on July 28, Friday, he said earlier there was a system of disaster management through the district headquarters. This system will be changed and 296 nodal centres would be set up in the district for the purpose. There will be one disaster management centre in each of the 60 wards in MCC as well as in 223 Gram Panchayats and 13 local administrative body limits, the DC
said.

These centres will have nodal officers and they will be entrusted with the responsibility of disaster management.  The services of a total of 25 NDRF, 38 SDRF personnel and 190 fire service personnel apart from 74 Home Guards will be used for the purpose, he said.

He said so far during monsoons, seven people have lost their lives of whom five died of drowning. He said in the wake of landslip, 35 people from 7 houses have been shifted. He said 87 places in the district have been identified as land slip prone areas.

He said during monsoons, trekking has been banned and action will follow against anyone who violate the rules and instructions.

The DC said during emergency situations, public can call the district administration by dialing 1077. The Police can be contacted by dialing 112, he said.

City Police Commissioner Kuldeep Jain and SP Rishyanth were also present.
