DVS inaugurates biofuel information and demonstration centre at NMAMIT campus

Karkala, Nov 19, Nov 2011 : CM D. V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the Udupi District Biofuel Information and Demonstration Centre established jointly by NMAMIT and the Karnataka State Biofuel Development Board on the NMAMIT campus on Nov 18 Friday. The CM also participated in the silver jubilee celebrations of the institutions.

In his inaugural address, the CM said that the state administration has submitted a proposal to the UGC for the establishment of 20 model colleges across Karnataka, a project that will cost Rs. 180 crore. He said that the state has approved the setting up of 55 polytechnic colleges. Currently, 12 percent of the students in India are pursuing their higher education and the state wants to increase the percentage to 25 percent.

Y. B. Ramakrishna, the chairman of the board, said that this is the 16th biofuel information and demonstration centre to be established at NIT. He also announced the setting up of 15 more centres within the state within the next 6 months. Biofuel will be introduced in all the 18,000 KSRTC buses within the following year and in machinery and buses operating at the Bangalore International Airport within the next month, he informed.

Dr. V. S. Acharya, the district-in-charge minister of Udupi, released the special bulletin of NMAMIT. Dr. H. Maheshappa, the vice chancellor of Belgaum VTU, released the silver jubilee souvenir.


Among the dignitaries present were D. H. Shankaramurthy, the speaker of the state legislative council; Vinay Hegde, the vice chancellor of Nitte University; Gopal Bhandary, the MLA of Karkala; Dr. N. R. Shetty; Dr. Reju, the deputy commissioner of Udupi; Dr. Shantaram Shetty; M. Abdul Aziz, the assistant directr of Mangalore directorate of commerce and industry.


Y. S. Kulkarni, the principal of NIT, presented the annual report and Dr. Niranjan proposed the vote of thanks.
