Mangaluru, Nov 1, 2025: “Regardless of religion, language, or region, everyone living in Karnataka is a Kannadiga,” said Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
He was speaking after hoisting the national flag at the district-level Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations held at Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru on Saturday. Delivering the Rajyotsava message, the minister emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting the Kannada language.
“We must not become liberal at the cost of our language. While linguistic fanaticism is not desirable, Kannada pride is essential. Only with that pride can we sustain and nurture our language. Efforts should also be made to teach Kannada to those who don’t know it,” he said.
To ease traffic congestion within the city and along the national highway, the government plans to develop a ring road connecting Thalapady to Surathkal, he announced.
He added that work orders have been issued for the development and maintenance of Panambur and Tannirbavi beaches under a public-private partnership model. The government is also focusing on attracting tourists to the district by funding various tourism initiatives.
“The long-pending demand of art and theatre enthusiasts will soon be fulfilled, as tenders have been invited for the construction of a state-of-the-art theatre in Mangaluru,” he said.
During the event, 95 individuals and organizations from various fields were honoured with the District Rajyotsava Awards for their achievements.
MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Manjunath Bhandary, Ivan D’Souza, chairpersons of various academies and boards, and senior officials were present.
