Court grants interim bail to Bhaskar Shetty murder accused to perform father’s last rites

Udupi, June 24, 2020: District Court on Monday granted conditional interim bail to Niranjan Bhat, to perform his father’s last rites. Niranjan Bhat is one of the accused in the murder of businessman Bhaskar Shetty in July 2016.

Niranjan’s father Srinivas Bhat passed away two days ago. As per reports, Srinivas was mentally disturbed due to the happenings in the case. It may be recalled that the police had arrested him too in the murder case on charges of tampering with the evidence.

The district court, granted conditional bail till July 7, on the condition that he shall execute a Rs 5 lakh bond and surrender himself before the court on or before July 7.

The main accused in the case Rajeshwari Shetty, wife of the deceased Bhaskar Shetty is already out on bail. The second accused and son of deceased, Navneet Shetty is still in prison.

NRI businessman Bhaskar Shetty went missing from his house here on July 28, 2016. His mother Gulabi Shetty lodged a missing person complaint on July 29. The police arrested his wife Rajeshwari, her son Navaneeth and astrologer Niranjan Bhat on the charge of murdering Bhaskar Shetty and destroying the evidence, in Udupi on August 7, 2016.
