Controversy erupts over omission of Kannada on Mangaluru Junction Railway Station signboard

Mangaluru, Oct 15, 2023: The recent placement of a signboard at Mangaluru Junction railway station, under the jurisdiction of the Southern Railway, has sparked controversy due to the exclusion of the Kannada language.

The sign displayed the text ’Mangaluru Junction Running Room’ solely in Malayalam, Hindi, and English, with no inclusion of the local language, Kannada.

Members of various railway organizations swiftly expressed their dissatisfaction and formally lodged a complaint with the authorities of the Palakkad division. This issue also gained momentum on social media platforms, attracting the attention of railway authorities.

Under growing pressure, railway officials acted promptly by removing the non-Kannada signboard on Saturday. Local railway users have strongly advocated for the inclusion of Kannada on the replacement signboard.
