Udupi , Mar 27, 2013: The Congress and the BJP are on the look-out for strong candidates who can give a good fight to three time MLA Halady Srinivas Shetty who has announced that he would be contesting the assembly elections this time as an independent.
Halady Srinivas Shetty had quit his legislatorship and then the BJP in July 2012 after being denied a ministerial berth in Jagadish Shettar’s cabinet at the last moment.
As far as Shetty is concerned, he is confident enough and states he does not need the support of any political party.
Halady’s political journey began in the 1999 assembly election when he defeated Congress strongman Pratapachandra Shetty from Kundapur. It was a hatrick win for Shetty when he was re-elected twice from the same constituency in 2004 defeating Congress candidate Ashok Kumar Shetty and in 2008 against Congress’s K Jayaprakash Hegde by a margin of 25,083 votes.
Shetty’s election campaign is set to be launched in first week of April as he is presently recovering from a minor health ailment.
