City police organize anti-drug march to enhance awareness

Mnagalore, Nov 16, 2011  : The Mangalore city police in collaboration with SDM College and Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL) organized a drug awareness programme on MG Road on the evening of Nov 15 Tuesday

Students from various colleges participated in the event and walked for about a mile holding lit candles in their hands. They also displayed placards bearing information on the adverse effects of drug abuse.

One of the participants said that more and more people in Mangalore are getting addicted to drugs, owing to which the need to create awareness on drug abuse and launch anti-drug campaigns is great. A police officer said that the purpose of the campaign is to make Mangalore a drug-free city.

Siddeshwar, the sub inspector of Barke Police Station, initiated this campaign. Reports of drug abuse are on the rise in the city, owing to which the police department organized the walk to remove drug abuse from college campuses and create awareness among the youth.

A signature campaign also formed part of the event.


Sachitha Nandagopal, the executive director of CIL, and Dr. K. Devaraj, the principal of SDM BBM College, also participated in this march
