City police organize anti-drug campaign on Ullal Beach

Ullal, Nov 26, 2011 : A large kite flown during the anti-drug campaign organized by the city police on Ullal Beach yesterday bore the slogan, “Say no to drugs.” The city police aim to convey the message that it is possible to enjoy life without drugs through a variety of campaigns supported by cultural media.


ullal 1The campaign on Ullal Beach was organized in association with several colleges such as PA, Yenepoya, Fr. Muller, Nitte, and others and featured skits, songs, dance presentations.

Seemanth Kumar Singh, the Mangalore police commissioner, said that the anti drugs campaign is being held in order to educate people. He said that booking cases alone with not solve the drug problem and that the evil should be removed by its roots. He urged the public to complain to the police if they come across anyone selling drugs. So far, the city police have booked 30 cases under the NDPS Act, he added.

One of the students said that anti-drug programs serve as eye openers and spread awareness in the society. She urged the young to develop the courage to say no to people who try to force them into drug abuse.

The city police are planning to get youth groups, elected representatives, companies such as Infosys, fishermen’s groups, and others involved in the anti-drug campaign. They also plan to organize similar campaigns at Big Bazaar and City Centre too.
